October 20 was the deadline for contest entries in the kidsnewsroom U.S. Presidential Challenge contest. The challenge was this: This year, a new president will be elected. Send us an essay or art work that shows how YOU think our new leader could make the United States a better place!

The winning entry was a poem, shown below, submitted by Corey D, age 13, from Allentown, Pennsylvania

A Letter To Our New Leader

To our new U.S. leader
I'll cut to the chase.
Please make our country
A much better place.
By sheltering the homeless.
And finding a cure
For those who are sick
Or misguided, or poor.
By ending the sadness
And all the frustration
That comes when our system
Deprives education
To those whose skin
Isn't pure white.
They need to learn too.
They do have a right
To be heard
To have voice
To be seen
With a choice.
Be there for all
Who need your protection
And you will have won
The real U.S. election.

Kidsnewsroom congratulates Corey on his original and thoughtful challenge to the U.S. president. Great job, Corey!
