AROUND THE WORLD 4: Prince Of Wales Presented With Award

WWF presented His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales with an Awareness Award at this year's British Environment and Media Awards ceremony. The award is given in recognition of achieving an outstanding impact on public consciousness on the subject on the environment.

“I could not be more delighted to accept it...this [climate change] is an issue that has concerned me greatly for many years," the Prince said via a video message. “What we need now is a set of positive actions that will really engage human ingenuity and determination and create some solutions, matched by the political and personal will to carry them through."

“You hardly need me to tell you…that climate change threatens all of us, and all of our descendants, so it really is an issue requiring concerted action from every sector of society," the Prince added.

WWF-UK CEO Robert Napier, who presented the award, said that The Prince of Wales stood out as an exceptional winner of the BEMA award, due to his "determination not only to highlight the issues threatening the environment as well as proposing possible solutions, but also to act as a catalyst for change."

The British Environment and Media Awards were created to promote excellence in environmental reporting among journalists and other professionals. WWF has been managing the event since 2001.

The Prince of Wales' father, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, is President Emeritus of WWF. The Duke was recently in Singapore where he opened up WWF's newest office.
